Yaylalar
Das kleine Bergdorf Yaylalar liegt auf 1900 m im Osten des Kaçkar Gebirges. Dieses einsame, wunderschöne Tal ist meistens im Winter eingeschneit und daher von der Außenwelt abgeschnitten.
Ein Großteil der einheimischen Bergbauern lebt hier in idyllischer Einsamkeit das ganze Jahr durch.
Eine der Berg-Pensionen bleibt nun im Winter für uns geöffnet. Wir besuchen dieses Dorf oft um ein typisches türkisches Mahl zu geniessen. Auf Wunsch unserer Gäste übernachten wir auch dort, um eine richtig urige Nacht in einem abgelegenen Bergdorf zu erleben.
Wie in Ayder und Ikizdere landet der Helikopter auch hier direkt vor dem Hotel.
Hier befindet sich auch ein Depot mit Sicherheitsausrüstung und Kerosin.
Dieses Dorf kann nur mit Helikopter oder Skiern erreicht werden. Von einem der umliegenden Berge fahren wir mit den Skiern durch einen Fichtenwald und durch das Dorf hindurch direkt bis zum Hotel ab.
A history of snowboarding
Many people claim, rightly or wrongly, to have played a crucial role in the development of snowboarding, while some even claim to have invented it.Yet you can find evidence of the existence of snowboards in the 1920s.
Does this mean, then, that men have been standing on planks of wood and using them to slide along the snow with no notion of 'inventions' or commercialisation since the beginning of the last century?
The story takes place in Turkey, in the Kaçkar range in the northeast of the country, and more precisely in the small Ikizdere valley.
We wanted to get to know and perhaps board with these Turks who no-one had even mentioned before.
We were invited into the mosque and took part in a brotherly and friendly cultural exchange.
Excitement levels rose a little more when the oldest man in the village went off to get his 'board'.
